Devlog #1: Introducing PixForge

Well, hello there. It's new to me to be posting some Devlog notes here. But over these past few months, I've been idle and not drawing much anymore, so I tried playing around in RPG Maker.

I got really inspired by it when I tried the engine with these assets. And for the character, I always thought of having a character the same as in RO, since I have always been a fan of that art style. But In the vast realm of RPG game development, the creation of diverse and lively characters plays a pivotal role in immersing players in the gaming experience. And I have a problem with creating this many characters to fill my maps. I tried to resolve this by using a game character generator, but the perfectionist in me wanted to have that RO style.

Thus, recently, I delved into a fascinating side project aimed at enhancing my RPG maps by populating them with an array of pixel game characters. The driving force behind this endeavor was the development of a character generator tool, currently in its early stages. I bootstraped this project using ChatGPT, at first it was just for fun, but I quickly realized this tool is actually something that I can use.

The Pixel Game Character Generator, I called PixForge!

As I embarked on the creation of this tool, my primary goal was to streamline the process of generating pixel game characters for my RPG maps. The result? The PixForge Character Generator is a web tool accessible at pixforge.bluezald.com

Key Features:

  1. Idle Animation
  2. Gender selection
  3. Export as a single image or the idle animation (In progress)
  4. Detailed parts selection
  5. Color selection (In progress)

Developer Blog Highlights:

1. Inspiration Behind PixForge:

  • Again the inspiration behind this is to be able to have characters like in RO for a game that I'll be creating soon (hopefully)

2. User Feedback and Iterative Development:

  • Share insights into user feedback and how it has shaped the ongoing development of the PixForge Character Generator. Highlight key features requested by the community.

3. Showcasing PixForge in Action:

5. Future Roadmap:

  • For now, the goal of this tool is to have idle animations, that I can use to fill the map with idle characters
  • Basic walking animation - the standard 4 direction movement in RPG maker
  • More outfits - Of course, but I'll be starting first with assets that are in sync with the game I'm creating. Desert theme, and medieval fantasy.
  • Battler mode - I still have no idea about this but I'll probably have more on it once I'm using the RPG maker's battle system.

Conclusion:

The PixForge Character Generator stands as a testament to the fusion of creativity and technology in the realm of RPG game development. As the tool continues to evolve, it promises to be a valuable asset for developers seeking to populate their game worlds with diverse and dynamic characters.

Feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with PixForge, and stay tuned for future updates as we embark on this pixelated adventure together!
